HPI Racing is a manufacturer of radio-controlled cars founded by Tatsuro Watanabe in Foothill Ranch, Southern California, in 1986. The abbreviation stands for "Hobby Products International". In 2007, the company introduced a series of 1/43rd scale diecast models focusing on racing cars from rally, sports car and touring car championships. 1/43rd scale resin models, mostly of Japanese sports cars in street and racing versions, were soon added to the range, and some 1/18th scale resin models followed in 2012. All models were made in China. They are highly detailed and excellently finished and were among the best model cars available at that time. However, they were quite expensive due to the high quality, and most cars in the range had already been modelled by other manufacturers before. In late 2013 already, HPI Racing retired from the diecast and resin model car business.
